Tom Thompson, President & CEO

Mr. Thomas N. Thompson began his reinsurance career in 1985 as a Claims Account Representative with the leading brokerage firm E.W. Blanch Co. (now part of the Aon Benfield Group). In 1987, Mr. Thompson completed E.W. Blanch Co.’s world renowned reinsurance training program in the top 15% of his class and joined the company’s Midwest Sales and Service Unit shortly thereafter. As a Senior Account Representative for E.W. Blanch Co., Tom was responsible for all phases of the reinsurance process including program analysis, design and placement, and coordination of all technical servicing responsibilities. In 1989, Mr. Thompson was selected to oversee the transition of E.W. Blanch Co.’s London placed reinsurance business from E.W. Blanch Co. (UK) to Carter, Wilkes and Fane, a Willis Faber Company. While in London, Tom successfully placed a number of programs directly into Lloyds of London for the January 1, 1990 renewal season. In 1994, Mr. Thompson accepted a treaty brokerage position with Sedgwick Re (now part of Guy Carpenter/Marsh & McLennan). While at Sedgwick Re Tom was directly involved in the production of several new accounts and the servicing of Sedgwick Re’s existing client base. Since entering the reinsurance industry, Tom has placed and serviced over 250 reinsurance contracts ranging in diversity from property catastrophe to medical malpractice reinsurance. In 1998, Mr. Thompson formed Reinsurance Results to specialize in the identification and recovery of overpaid reinsurance premium and under-ceded reinsurance loss through forensic audits. Mr. Thompson has earned the following designations:
  • 1993 – Masters in Business Administration (Magna Cum Laude) – University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN
  • 1994 – Associate in Reinsurance (ARe)
  • 1995 – Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)

Theresa Schugel, Client Engagement

Theresa leads Reinsurance Results, Inc.’s (RRI’s) business development focus. She joined forces with RRI in 2018 wherein she was President & CEO of TL Schugel & Associates, Inc. Her strategic consulting firm was established to meet the needs of an increasingly competitive market. As companies contend with limited time and resources, TL Schugel & Associates combines extensive executive experience with industry “know how” to help companies optimize their results. The partnership with RRI directly aligns with the original vision of her firm and enables her to leverage her numerous industry contacts.

Prior to starting her consulting practice in 2014, Theresa was with BMS Group. She served as Executive Vice President of the Global Specialty Casualty division for two years before her promotion to Executive Vice President of Global Business Development. Theresa led Reinsurance business production efforts and the firm’s marketing focus. She was a member of the BMS executive leadership team and sat on the BMS U.S. Executive Committee and U.S. Board.

Before joining BMS, Theresa spent four years leading Aon Benfield’s Global Healthcare and Lawyers Professional Liability Practice and served as Account Executive on specific accounts. Formerly CEO of the Benfield subsidiary Paragon Strategic Solutions, Theresa also led a national healthcare origination team for Benfield. Prior to her time at Benfield, she spent 14 years at The St. Paul, working within their Medical Services and Sales & Marketing Divisions in addition to being the Ceded Reinsurance buyer for all lines.

Theresa received a BA and MBA from the University of St. Thomas. She has participated in a variety of executive leadership programs and holds the professional designations of CPCU, ARM and ARe. Industry awards include being named one of 40 influential women in Reinsurance by Intelligent Insurer as well as two-time recipient of the Professional Liability Power Broker award by Risk and Insurance.

Robert Coleman, Director of Information Technology

Mr. Coleman is responsible for Reinsurance Result, Inc.’s (RRI’s) Information Technology (IT) and Data Analytics infrastructure. After a long career in healthcare IT and imaging informatics, in 2021 Bob founded ClarityMine Technologies, a data analytics company specializing in the extraction, transformation, and analysis of business data to reveal the value hidden in the vast data stores of the typical enterprise. He (and his team) joined RRI in 2021 as their Senior Data Engineer, managing and enhancing RRI’s IT systems, overseeing IT operations, and leading and developing IT and data analyst staff.

Prior to joining RRI, as Senior Director of Imaging Informatics at MaineHealth, Maine’s largest Healthcare Network, Bob led the transformation of southern Maine’s imaging informatics infrastructure for nearly 25 years. In 2000, he led Maine Medical Center through the acquisition of their first Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), which ultimately processed and stored hundreds of terabytes of healthcare imaging data. In 2004, he was the Principal Investigator for a $1.4M Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality grant Improving Care in a Rural Region with Consolidated Imaging which launched a shared PACS across multiple disparate hospitals in rural Maine. That regional “Consolidated Imaging” program provides radiology and cardiology informatics, healthcare image archiving and related services to most hospitals and imaging centers in southern Maine. Bob received a B.S. in Computer Science from Penn State in 1985 (Honors Degree.) He was a member of the Agfa Medical Advisory Council (MAC) and a participant and presenter at annual MAC meetings in Seville Spain, Edinburgh Scotland, Prague Czech Republic, Barcelona Spain, and San Francisco, CA. As a long-standing member of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine, he authored or co-authored and presented multiple papers and presentations including:
